Maurice Hawthorne FRCS
Maurice Hawthorne has been a Consultant ENT Surgeon since 1988. He has been a postgraduate examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England since 1989 and numbers among his other examiner-ships those of the GMC and The Intercollegiate Specialty Boards in Surgery. He has a track record of more than ten years in assessment, having worked on the creation of the MRCS and DOHNS examinations. More recently he has been developing assessment tools for use by the Intercollegiate Specialty Boards.
In the field of fitness to practice Mr Hawthorne is a performance assessor for the General Medical Council (GMC) and has also undertaken work for The New Zealand Medical Council and the South African Medical Council.
Mr Hawthorne's judicial training has been provided by the Judicial Studies Board and he works regularly in a judicial capacity for The Appeals Service and The Police Pensions Authority.
Dr Paul Lawler MA, FRCP, FRCA
In a distinguished 35 year career, Dr Lawler has made many significant contributions to national and international medicine. In his capacities as President of the Intensive Care Society, Member of the Council of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and Chairman of the Intercollegiate Board, he has taken part in numerous national and regional governance investigations.
Dr Lawler has advised the General Medical Council (GMC) on the setting up of its performance procedures related to Intensive Care Medicine and extensively advised and provided support to the GMC during the testing of these procedures. For 3 years, Dr Lawler held the post of Medical Director at a leading North East Trust.
Richard Tunnicliffe BA (Hons) ACII
Richard Tunnicliffe is a specialist in insurance regulation and risk management, including performance and corporate governance issues. He is an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner. In addition, Mr Tunnicliffe has provided advice to regulatory bodies concerning regulatory policy.
Janet Hawthorne LLB (Hons)
Janet Hawthorne is an experienced regulatory lawyer. She has held the position of Legal Director of a national regulator and has represented a variety of regulatory bodies in front of disciplinary tribunals. In addition she has extensive experience of the practice and procedure relating to performance management and investigation.
